Biography

Tobias Donat (*1983 in Berlin) is based in Frankfurt am Main. In 2014, he graduated from the Städelschule. Most of his works are context-specific investigations into a certain site and its history. Being fully aware that different contexts demand for specific methods, he elaborates on how art—as a representation—can create insightful realities. He has been working in all media, often drawing upon everyday culture to explore the notions of post-modern architecture, interior design, and consumer goods.

Recent exhibitions include "Global Goals" at Nir Altman, Munich (2018); "Your North is my South" at Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg (2018); "Power to the People" at Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (2018); "Acht Tage Marzahn,“ Berlin (2017); "oneworld" at PPC Philipp Pflug Contemporary, Frankfurt am Main (2017); "Schönes Neues Wohnen" at Full Haus, Los Angeles (2016); "Caught in the Act" at Audio Visual Arts, New York (2015); "Tanod Saibot" at PPC Philipp Pflug Contemporary, Frankfurt am Main (2015); "Pashmina" at Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main (2014); "!“§$%&/()=?," at 1822-Forum in Frankfurt am Main (2012); and "Übermorgenkünstler II" at Heidelberger Kunstverein (2012).

Tobias Donat is the founder of Graue Maus Verlag, a self-publishing imprint dedicated to his artist books.
